The Viyug Internship Programme

In an effort to enrich the young talents and students enrolled/recently graduated from undergraduate and post-graduate (masters) degrees, provide on-the-job experience, and promote thought leadership, The Viyug offers internship to latter people from diverse educational backgrounds to work on various on-going projects, programmes, and initiatives. The interns will engage with a variety of tasks that reflect the organisation’s functions to support the office of the Editor.

Selected candidates are attached with the office of the Editor of The Viyug to perform their assigned roles such as research, external communication engagements, and other forums associated with The Viyug in context of the former’s inclinations. Some of the internships carry no monetary benefits while some grant a honorarium in case the candidate did/delivered exemplary outcomes that aligned and helped achieve our goals and objectives. All the internships are carried out remotely as of now.

Internship Vacancies

1. Research Internship

Duration: 1 to 2 months

Salary: This internship/position does not grant monetary benefits

Expertise

Candidate must have interest and intermediate level of expertise in one or more research areas pertaining to the subject matters of;

• Defence and Strategic Studies, International Relations, Political Science, Terrorism Studies, Economics, Cybersecurity and related fields.
• Better knowledge and understanding of current geopolitical trends/happenings in Asia-Pacific region.

Responsibilities and Expectations

• Author and work on an independent research article (of 800-1200 words) or an issue brief (4000-6000 words for 2 months duration) under the mentorship of the Editor/Sub-Editor or patrons of The Viyug.
• Take leads on day-to-day research activities as stated by the organisation.
• Participate in organisation’s podcasts and related content creation process.
• Attend and represent the organisation in various conferences, roundtables, and webinars, etc.
• Other functions as stated by the assigned supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications

• Must be enrolled (post-graduate & second and final year of undergraduate) or recently graduated from recognised colleges/universities with degrees in defence & strategic studies, international relations, political science, cybersecurity, economics or other related courses.
• Excellent research, quantitative, reporting, and writing skills.
• Strong interest and passion for above mentioned fields including foreign policy and public policy.
• Enthusiastic and creative team player with ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

2. Social Media Managing Internship

Duration: 1 or 2 months

Salary: A honorarium* of Rs. 2500 will be given at the end of successful completion of the internship.

Expertise: The selected candidate primarily focuses on increasing The Viyug’s social media footprint in online media platforms such Twitter and Spotify/Apple Podcasts for podcasts. The candidates might be required to introduce new avenues of digital communication via new media platforms.

Responsibilities and Expectations

• Create comprehensive social media strategy/posts and marketing campaigns to increase the digital footprint of The Viyug’s Twitter accounts.
• Oversee Twitter and Spotify/Apple podcasts accounts ensuring up-to-date content and community engagements.
• Actively engage with social media audiences to drive increasing digital footprints and also handle any potential crisis with the aim of improving brand perception and messaging.
• Devise/Improvise a social content calendar and performance metrics to ensure alignment of content that is being published in the website.
• Curation, Production, and promotion of new media products such as podcasts and videos.
• Other similar functions as required by the organisation.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Enrolled/Recently graduated from any recognised colleges/universities with degrees such as MBA (Marketing) or Master’s degree in Mass Media and Communication. Having completed additional courses/diploma in journalism or digital marketing is highly preferable. Final year students in these mentioned/similar undergraduate courses are so welcome to apply.
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of Twitter and its usage for Business especially for publication ones.
• Better understanding and in-depth knowledge of Twitter posting (tweets), campaign creation, strategy and analytics.
• Better understanding of SEO.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and understanding of current affairs.
• In-depth knowledge of podcasts and online platforms like Spotify and apple podcasts. Additional knowledge on usage of Canva (application) is desired.
• Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
